Mallards Drop Error-Filled Contest

June 11, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - The contest between the Madison Mallards (8-4) and Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (7-4) would come down to the wire, but how it got to that point is what tells the story. The two teams would combine for nine errors and 12 wild pitches, with Madison on the hook for four and five of those, respectively. Each team would only record a single RBI with three runs being scored on wild pitches.

Frank German (North Florida) turned in four solid innings for the Mallards before running into trouble in the fifth. He left the game with no one out in the fifth after a pair of runs scored. Alex Hintze (UCONN) and Luke Shilling (Illinois) each allowed a run before Ty Pennington (Nevada-Reno) turned in two perfect frames. German was eventually tallied with the loss.

Dylan File (Dixie State) grabbed the win for the Rafters, turning in five complete innings before handing the ball to the bullpen. His aide was John Jaeger (Sterling College), who gave up two unearned runs on a dropped pop fly by the second baseman Drew McLaughlin (Dixie State). It would bring the Mallards within one, but Garrett Shilling (Xavier) was able to shut the door and record the save.

Matt McCann (Fairleigh Dickinson) turned in a solid performance for Madison, as the second baseman went 3-5 with a run scored, pushing his season average to .357.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Thursday, June 16th against the Battle Creek Bombers . The game will feature a Madison State Capitol Maynard bobblehead giveaway, brought to you by Zimbrick Honda. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
