Honkers Fall to Duluth Huskies

(Rochester, Minn) - The Rochester Honkers fell to the Duluth Huskies, 4-3 at Mayo Field Thursday night. The Huskies scored three runs in the top of the ninth to seal the game.

Alex Fitchett (Hawaii) walked with the bases loaded to give the Honkers a 1-0 lead in the first. The Honkers scored another run in the inning, when Jackson Thoreson (St. Mary's) hit into a double play. The double play still allowed Christopher Scalisi (Redlands) to score, making the score 2-0.

Logan Browning (Florida Southern) hit a home run to score the first Huskies' run, making it 2-1 in the Honkers favor in the third inning. In the fourth, Fitchett hit a home run of his own, pushing the Honkers lead to 3-1.

In the ninth, Carter Hanford (Jeff Co) hit a single to pull the Huskies within one, then Matt Brown (Jeff Co) hit a two-run home run to give the Huskies the 4-3 win.

Houston Glad (NE Oklahoma JC) got the start for the Honkers; he pitched seven innings, allowed five hits, one run, walked one and struck out four. Sam Bjorngjeld (0-1) (Tulane) received the loss for the Honkers; he pitched two innings, allowed three hits, three runs and struck out one.

Ryan Tapani (Creighton) got the start for the Huskies; he pitched five innings, allowed one run on five hits, walked three and struck out two. Payton Robinson (2-0) (Southeastern Louisiana) got the win for Duluth. He went three innings, allowing no runs and struck out four.

With the loss, the Honkers fall to 5-11, and the Huskies move to 8-9.

The Honkers will be back at Mayo Field tomorrow night to take on the same Duluth Huskies. It is First Responders Night at Mayo Field, where all first responders who show their first responders ID Badge will receive a free general admission ticket! First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and gates open up at 6. The Honkers will battle the Willmar Stingers over the weekend in Rochester. Saturday its Kemps Kids Night at Mayo Field, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. and gates opening at 6!
