Kalamazoo Growlers Pitching Violation Causes Change in Standings

June 16, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods) News Release

Rochester, Minn. - During the Kalamazoo Growlers and Wisconsin Woodchucks game on June 15, Growlers pitcher Devin Pellien pitched two innings in the game after throwing 87 pitches on June 11.

This is a violation of the NWL Pitching Guidelines which state that after an appearance where a pitcher has thrown over 85 pitches they are required to have four full days of rest before appearing in another game.

Due to this violation Kalamazoo's win has be changed to a loss and Wisconsin's loss has been removed but they will not be given a win.

"I think the high level of punishment that we place on violations of this rule is a demonstration of the importance the Northwoods League places on protecting pitchers over the course of the summer", said NWL Chairman, Dick Radatz, Jr.

A full listing of the Northwoods League Pitching Guidelines can be found on the NWL website by clicking on 'About NWL' at the top of the page and selecting the NWL Pitching Guidelines link.
