Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - The Bullfrogs fell behind early to the Kingfish but battled their way back into the ball game but ran out of outs and fell to the Kingfish, 7-6. After tonight's lost the Bullfrogs and Kingfish split their two game series in Kenosha. Both teams' records now stands at 6-10, both at the bottom of the South Division.
The trouble started right away for the Bullfrogs as the Kingfish put up four runs in the bottom of the first. Chad Mabini (Western Carolina) got the start tonight for the Bullfrogs, his first appearance of the season on the mound. The Kingfish came out swinging as the first two batters to come to the plate had base hits. Peter Schuler (Kent State) worked a walk to load the bases. Gunner McNeil (Kentucky) plated the game's first two runs on a base hit down the third base line. The Kingfish scored two more runs in the inning to push the lead to 4-0.
As the Bullfrogs headed into the top of fifth they were now down six runs. They began to battle back as they were able to score two runs. The first run coming off an error by Micah Coffey (Minnesota) and the second coming off a RBI double by Hill Alexander (Midland). Now in the sixth, the Bullfrogs continued to chip away at the lead as they scored three runs. The first run of the inning scored off a bases loaded walk by Chris Botsoe (Louisivlle). Alexander picked up his second RBI of the night as the hit a sac fly to score Matt Hoeg (Iowa Western CC).
The Bullfrogs were able to plate one more run in the top of the seventh to bring the deficit down to one. But a strong pitching performance by the closer Ryan Orr closed the door on the Bullfrogs comeback hopes.
The bullpen was strong once again as relievers Peter Castillo (Palm Beach State) and Luke VanLanen (Valparaiso) shut down the Kingfish offense. Offensively, Hoeg finished 1-3 with a walk and Kanemaru had a two hit ballgame.
The Bullfrogs will continue their road trip as they head to Eau Claire for a two game series. First game is starts at 6:35pm.
