Rochester Honkers News Release
ROCHESTER, MINN - The Rochester Honkers dropped game one to the St. Cloud Rox 7-5 tonight at Mayo Field.
The Honkers fell behind 4-0 early in this game. Noah Rooney (Minnesota) let up two runs in the second and third. Ethan Mann (New Mexico State) crushed a two run home run in the second to make it 2-0. In the third St. Cloud drove in a run on a Mann fielders choice and Ryan Jackson (Nevada) RBI single.
The Honkers battled back. They got three of those runs back in the fourth on a Michael Brown (Washington) three run homer, his second of the summer, making it 4-3. It stayed that way until the seventh when St. Cloud took a 5-3 lead on a Charlie Condon (Georgia) sac fly.
The Rox extended their lead in the ninth. Charlie Condon once again came through with a two run double, making it 7-3 St. Cloud. The would prove to be gigantic. In the bottom of the ninth the Honkers scored two runs on a Will Asby (Sac City) solo home run and Michael Brown RBI double. Unfortunately for Rochester Alex Ritzer (UNC) lined out representing the tying run to end the game.
The Honkers have their three game winning streak snapped as they fall to 17-20 this summer and 2-1 in the second half. They'll look for the series sweep tomorrow night with Max Meyer (Indiana State) making his Honkers debut. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
