July 8, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
Mequon, WI - Four Chinooks players from the 2022 roster have been selected for the 2022 Northwoods League All-Star Game: Garrett Martin (Outfielder), Matthew Deprey (Catcher), Mitch Mueller (Pitcher), and Eric Chalus (Pitcher).
Garrett Martin made his first appearance as a Chinook on June 14th and immediately made an impact. The junior from Oklahoma State went 8 for 10 during his first three games with the club, crushing two home runs in the process. Since then, he has gone on to tie the league lead in home runs (8) while walking a team-high 23 times. In 26 games, Martin is currently slashing .351/.510/.714, leading the team in on-base and slugging percentage.
Matthew DePrey is the complete opposite of a streaky hitter. Recording a hit in all but three of his games, the Sun Prairie, WI native has recorded a .375 batting average (third in the NWL among qualified hitters), .431 on-base percentage and a .589 slugging percentage (fifth among qualified hitters). The Chinook catcher has recorded 16 multi-hit games in the first half of the 2022 season. A defensive presence for the Chinooks, DePrey has only recorded one error on 170 total chances behind the plate this season.
A returning Chinook, Mitch Mueller has been a go-to arm out of the Lakeshore bullpen this season. In nine relief appearances, Mueller boasts a 3-1 record while earning a save. Out of 17.1 innings pitched, the Chinook righty has only allowed two earned runs, good for a team low 1.04 ERA. Mueller would record his longest outing of the season in a 9-8 victory on June 10th against Fond Du Lac. The Parkland College product tossed four shutout innings, surrendering just one hit while striking out a season high seven.
Eric Chalus announced his presence in the Northwoods League with authority. The Opening Day starter for the Chinooks tossed five innings, striking out eight and walking two all while allowing just two runs on his way to a no decision. Establishing himself as one of the Northwoods League's top pitchers, Chalus is tied for fifth in the league with wins (3), seventh in strikeouts (37), fourth in ERA (2.25) and leads the league in batting average against with opposing hitters batting .182 against the Kent State product.
The 2022 Northwoods League All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, July 19th at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids, home of the Rafters. First half champs, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafter's coaching staff will manage the Great Lakes squad while first half champions St. Cloud Roxs staff will manage the Great Plains team.
The Northwoods League All-Star game is an annual game conducted to exhibit the league's best talent while granting selections the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of Major League Baseball scouts. Each Northwoods League ball club sends at least one of its players, as player selections are determined based on a league-wide voting process.
