Three Mallards Earn a Spot as Northwoods League All-Stars

Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, WI - The Northwoods League All-Star squads were announced on Friday morning, featuring three Mallards on the Great Lakes roster that will compete against the Great Plains division from Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids.
The first selection and only position player to earn an All-Star spot is catcher Josh Caron. Caron batted at a .310 clip while launching six home runs in the first half of play. The Sun Prairie native led the Ducks in hits, doubles, runs scored, walks, and runs-driven-in during an 18-18 start to the season. The product of the University of Nebraska played in the second half for the team last season and did not get a chance to be listed on the All-Star ballot in 2021 as a graduated high school senior.
The other two Mallards to be voted onto the All-Star roster by the media, front office, and coaches were both relief arms. The first of the two is closer Bryce Woody. Woody ranks in the top-5 in the league when it comes to slamming the door on the season with five saves. The redshirt senior from Lincoln Memorial University posted a sub-1 earned run average throughout the first 36 games of the year, striking out 36 and only walking 8. Woody had a performance out of the bullpen against the Kokomo Jackrabbits in mid-June where he struck out all six batters he faced to secure a win for Madison. The latter of the pitchers elected is the right hander from Delta State University, Steven Lacey. The combination of Lacey and Woody in the backend of the bullpen has been untouchable when used as a duo leading late in games. Lacey, who did not pitch much during his collegiate spring season at Delta State, impressed with his strikeout abilities, punching out 30 and walking just 6 batters. He's struck out at least one bat in each of his 11 appearances out of the arm barn this season.
The three Mallards will make the trip to Wisconsin Rapids over the All-Star Break which spans from July 18th through July 20th before returning to play the rest of the second half.
