FLORENCE, Ky - Coming into Thursday night's 8-2 loss to the Washington Wild Things (3-5), the Florence Y'alls (7-1) pitching staff had just walked seven batters on the season and touted a 2.80 ERA.

Thursday night would not hold that hot start to form. Washington's Bralin Jackson got the scoring started in the first with a solo home run over the left field wall against Florence starter Frank Valentino. An inning later, Hector Roa added another solo blast to extend the Wild Things lead to 2-0.

The game held scoreless until the sixth, when Brian Sharp hit Washington's third home run of the game, a solo shot off of Yoshi Hamazaki to make it 3-0. The Wild Things would tack on an additional run in the inning to take a 4-0 advantage.

Florence quickly cut the deficit in half, as Chad Sedio hit a 2-run home run in the bottom half of the sixth, but that was all the Y'alls could muster in Thursday's first defeat of the 2021 season.

Washington added four more runs between the seventh and eighth innings to extend its lead to 8-2. Valentino (0-1) was credited with the loss, Washington's Daren Osby (1-0) earned the win. Florence walked six batters and all eight Washington runs were earned.

The Y'alls head out on their first road trip of the season this weekend, heading to take on the Gateway Grizzlies on June 5-7.
