Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC - Everything Darrin Holcomb has touched this week turned to gold and tonight was no different as Asheville's designated hitter went 4-4 with 2 doubles and a 3-run home run to pace the tourists to a 7-2 win over the West Virginia Power.

Holcomb drove in five runs on the night for the Tourists, highlighted by a three-run home run in the fifth off Nick Tyson to provide all the insurance Asheville would need to beat the Power. Holcomb is making a case to be the league's player of the week after nearly doubling his season RBI total in one night. He's now driven in 11 runs this season.

The Tourists were also bolstered by strong starting pitching, as Connor Graham delivered his first quality start of the year, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing only three hits and two runs, while striking out eight hitters.

Asheville got things started in the bottom of the first with the first of Holcomb's two RBI doubles. The Tourists are now 8-1 this year in games in which they scored first.

Clinging to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, Asheville's bats came alive. After starter RJ Seidel (0-1) issued a pair of one-out walks to Everth Cabrera and Helder Velasquez, Brian Rike's RBI single gave the Tourists a little breathing room. Holcomb stepped to the plate and his three-run blast to left gave them even more room to breathe with a 7-1 lead.

The Power would get one of those runs back in the sixth inning when Curt Rindal hit into a double play with the bases loaded to score Zelous Wheeler. The Tourists bullpen then took over, with Craig Rodriguez, Craig Baker and Randall Taylor throwing 3.1 scoreless innings to finish the ballgame.

Tomorrow night the Tourists will send righty Bruce Billings (1-0, 6.75) to the mound in search of a series win while the Power will counter with lefty Mike Ramlow (1-1, 4.50). It'll be a Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark, presented by Wild Wing Café, Rock 104.9 and Star 104.3, with dollar domestic drafts and soft drinks available all night long. The game will once again be broadcast on WRES 100.7 FM and the Express Employment Professionals Tourists Baseball Network.
