
GreenJackets Drop Second Straight at Home

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (7-7) lost their second straight game to the Kannapolis Intimidators (7-7) with a 6-5 loss on Wednesday night. Starter Steven Calicutt suffered the loss while Nick Noonan finished with three hits and an RBI to extend his hit streak to 11 games.
Trailing 3-2 in the fourth inning, Kannapolis' Danny Jordan connected on a two-run homer off of Calicutt to give the Intimidators a 4-2 lead.
Calicutt (0-1) worked four innings and allowed five runs on six hits. The lefty also walked one and struck out four.
Calicutt faced one batter in the fifth inning and walked Greg Paiml then was lifted for reliever Waldis Joaquin. The Intimidators added two more runs in the fifth inning on a two-out, two-run single from Jose Martinez for a 6-3 lead.
Augusta got single runs in the sixth and eighth innings on RBI ground outs from Garrett Baker and Ramon Corona to trim the lead to 6-5 but could not get any more after that.
The GreenJackets were able to get both the tying run and winning run on base in the bottom of the ninth with one out, but the Intimidators Henry Mabee struck out Brock Bond then got Noonan to ground out for his second save of the season.
The GreenJackets took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jackson Williams hit into a double-play with the bases loaded and Garrett Baker scored from third base.
The Intimidators rallied back in the third inning when Andrew Mead delievered a two-out, two-run double for a 2-1 lead.
Augusta came right back with two runs in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single from Bond and an RBI double from Noonan for a 3-2 lead.
The GreenJackets and Intimidators continue their series on Thursday night with Augusta sending right-hander Oliver Odle (0-1, 2.70) to the mound. Kannapolis counters with right-hander Johnnie Lowe (0-2, 9.72). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
James Simmons finished 2-for-4 for his team leading sixth multi-hit game of the season.
Ramon Corona also finished with two hits for Augusta.
Charlie Culberson snapped an 0-for-24 skid with a base hit in the ninth inning.
Augusta snapped a 16 innings scoreless streak in the second inning...the streak began in the fourth inning on Monday, April 14.
Santos Luis (1-0) recorded the win in relief for Kannapolis with five innings pitched and two runs allowed on five hits.
Thursday night's game is Irish Heritage Night. The GreenJackets will be wearing green Irish jersey's that will be auctioned off during the course of the game.
