Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (6-7) gave up 18 hits and fell to the Delmarva Shorebirds (7-6) 10-1 on Wednesday April 16th at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD. The Shorebirds threatened early, loading the bases off Suns starter Randy Matias (0-1), but Hagerstown escaped the inning without surrendering a run. In the bottom half of the inning, Hagerstown took the lead as shortstop Dan Lyons singled and was driven home two batters later by Suns left fielder Aaron Seuss. The lead would be short-lived, as the Shorebirds struck for three runs in the top half of the second inning. The runs came on a three-run home run for left fielder David Cash off of Matias. It was the first home run of the season for Cash.
The Shorebirds added two more runs in the third on a double to right field by Ryan Adams that plated Anthony Martinez and Tyler Henson. After another Delmarva run in the top of the fifth inning, the Suns had chances to make things interesting. With no outs in the home half of the sixth and seventh innings the Suns loaded the bases, but were unable to scratch out a run.
Shorebirds pitchers Zach Britton and Cliff Flagello shut down the Suns offense, limiting Hagerstown to just the one extra-base hit in the game. Britton pitched five and one third innings to earn his first win of the season, while Flagello earned a save in his three and two thirds innings of work.
The Suns and Shorebirds will play the finale of this two game series on Thursday, April 17th at 6:35 P.M. Gates will open at Municipal Stadium at 5:35.
