Hitmen Sweep Medicine Hat with OT Victory

Calgary, AB - It was physical match between the Calgary Hitmen and the Medicine Hat Tigers Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Hitmen came out victorious with an overtime win to complete the weekend sweep of the Tigers.

Zac Funk opened up the scoring with a goal just 3:21 into the first period, extending his point streak to six games, the longest in his career. The score was 1-0 through the first twenty minutes of play.

Medicine Hat followed up with two goals from Ashton Ferster and Lukas Svejkovsky at the beginning of the second period. Things started to get heated around the middle of the second when a line brawl broke out resulting in Tyson Galloway from the Hitmen and Carlin Dezainde from the Tigers, being ejected from the game. With multiple players in the box on both sides, the Hitmen capitalized on a man advantage with a goal from Grayden Siepmann to tie the game. The period finished with a score of 2-2.

The game remained tied until 7:21 into the third when Corson Hopwo netted the go ahead goal on the two man advantage capitalizing on a pair of penalties taken by Keegan Slaney and Adam Kydd. A scrum in front of the Tigers crease resulted in a loose puck on Sean Tschigerl's stick, where he went top shelf to tie the game 3-3.

For the first time this season, the game was pushed to overtime. The Tigers took a penalty with 2:37 left to go in OT. On the power play, Riley Fiddler-Schultz walked in with a quick release shot from the top of the left circle beating Bjorklund to give the Hitmen the victory.

Hitmen goalie Ethan Buenaventura started in his first game this season and secured his first WHL win making 28 saves.

The Hitmen will enjoy a full four day break before a pair of road games next weekend. On Friday, Nov. 19 they visit the Rebels in Red Deer before a Sunday, Nov. 21 stop in Edmonton against the Oil Kings.
