Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club announced today the selection of Axel Hurtig in the 2023 CHL Import Draft.

The Hitmen used their first-round pick, 33rd overall, on the defenceman from Sweden. Hurtig was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round (208th overall) in last week's NHL Draft. He played with Rögle BK for the past two seasons with their J18 and J20 programs and was a member of the Swedish U18 team, recently playing in the U18 World Championships.

"We are excited to draft Axel and welcome him to the Hitmen team. We are also excited he is a Flames NHL draft pick," said Hitmen General Manager Jeff Chynoweth. "Axel is a long, rangy defenceman that skates extremely well and is a good puck mover. Axel will be a terrific complement to our current group of defenceman."
