Calgary Hitmen News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Calgary Hitmen have secured their spot in the 2022-23 WHL Playoffs with a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday afternoon.
A power play goal in the first period from Riley Fiddler-Schultz on the power play was the lone goal of the period. Outshooting the Oil Kings heading into the second, Mason Finley was able to put Edmonton on the board to tie the game in the second. Heading into the final frame tied up, Carter Yakemchuk was able to restore the lead. Edmonton had an answer just over a minute later with a tally from Loick Daigle to tie the game once again.
Yakemchuk would get his second of the game on the power play, proving to be the game winner. With his 19th of the season, Yakemchuk is now third in goals scored by defenders and leads defenceman in power play goals with 15.
Tonight's two points has secured seventh position for Calgary in the Eastern Conference and the team will face the Red Deer Rebels in the first round of playoffs.
