
ICE Win 15th Straight Over Wheat Kings to Close Season

WINNIPEG M.B. - The Brandon Wheat Kings lose their 6th straight game as they close out the regular season with a ___ loss Saturday night in Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg ICE came out flying to start the game scoring a pair of goals in the opening 6:28 of the game. First it was Connor McClennon taking a Geekie pass to make it 1-0 ICE, then Owen Pederson would swing Conor Geekie loose who beat Wheat Kings goaltender Nick Jones through the five hole to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the second frame Conor Geekie would take off with the puck again beating a Wheat Kings defender scoring his 2nd of the night to make it 3-0 ICE. The Wheat Kings would finally get on the board with Joby Baumuller placing a shot on Beaupit allowing Rylen Roersma to cash in with the rebound to cut the ICE lead back to two. Only 23 seconds later the ICE would restore the 3 goal lead with Jonas Woo feeding Connor McClennon who wrapped the puck around the net beating Nick Jones to make it 4-1 Winnipeg ICE. The Wheat Kings late in the period would get a goal from Calder Anderson coming off the bench sprung loose on a breakaway allowing Anderson to score his 16th of the year in his final game of junior hockey giving the Wheat Kings life heading into the third period.
The Wheat Kings came close to winning Friday night after trailing heading into the third period but the lead was larger for the ICE. The Wheat Kings made it interesting with a Roger McQueen powerplay goal but it wasn't enough as Conor Geekie scored his 35th of the year to pick up the hatrick allowing the Wheat Kings to win 5-3.
