ICE CHIPS

The Winnipeg ICE host the Brandon Wheat Kings in a 6:00 face off tonight at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena as the Battle of Manitoba presented by Taylor McCaffery Lawyers concludes.

The ICE are coming off a 3-2 shootout victory in Brandon last night. Evan Friesen and Briley Wood scored during regulation time while Connor McClennon and Zack Ostapchuk found the back of the net in the shootout. Mason Beaupit made 37 saves over 65 minutes and then stopped two of three in the skills competition.

Zach Benson and Connor McClennon each lead the ICE with 14 points (seven goals and seven assists) against the Wheat Kings this season. Ben Zloty has a team high 11 assists.

Winnipeg had an 8-1-1 record versus Brandon during the 2021-22 regular season led by forward Matthew Savoie who registered 16 points (2 goals and 14 assists) in 10 games. Owen Pederson and Mikey Milne led the ICE with six goals each.

With 29 wins on home ice, the ICE have equalled the franchise and WHL records for home ice wins by a team playing a 68 game regular season schedule during the internet era. They share the current record of 29 wins set last season by the ICE and Edmonton Oil Kings.

With 27 wins on the road, the ICE set a WHL record for road wins by a team playing a 68 game regular season schedule during the internet era. The 2018-19 Prince Albert Raiders won 26 games.

With 27 wins on the road, the ICE set a new franchise record eclipsing last season's 24 wins in 34 games.

By scoring 320 goals this season, the ICE set a new franchise record eclipsing last season's 317.

By scoring 157 goals on the road this season the ICE have set a new franchise record eclipsing the previous record of 140 during the 2000-01 season.

Defenceman Ben Zloty set a new single season franchise record for assists and points by a defenceman. Zloty has 80 points (13 goals and 67 assists). The previous record of 71 points was held by Brayden McNabb during the 2010-11 season. Zloty's 67 assists is also a new single season franchise record for assists by a defenceman.

With 37 wins, Daniel Hauser set a new ICE franchise record for most wins by a goaltender in a single season. He eclipsed the previous record of 36 wins by Wyatt Hoflin in the 2014-15 season.

With 62 assists, forward Zach Benson is currently four assists shy of tying Jarret Stoll for the franchise record of most assists in a single season. Stoll recorded 66 assists during the 2000-01 season.

With 98 points, forward Zach Benson is currently eight points shy of tying Jarret Stoll for the franchise record of most points in a single season. Stoll recorded 106 points during the 2000-01 season.

Carson Latimer is three points shy of 100 career WHL points

From October 12th to November 19th, the ICE set a new franchise record with a 15 game winning streak eclipsing the previous mark of 14 games held by the 2009-10 Kootenay ICE.

From October 15th to 22nd, Winnipeg became the first Eastern Conference based team to go a perfect 5-0 on the road versus the B.C. Division since the 2011-12 Kootenay ICE.

Carson Lambos was named the 24th Captain in ICE franchise history on October 6th.

The 19 year old returned from Minnesota Wild Training Camp where he appeared in three NHL preseason games. Connor McClennon, Owen Pederson and Ben Zloty were named alternate captains for 2022-23.
