Hitmen Look to Reclaim Teddy Bear Toss Record
December 3, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The countdown is on to a world famous event in Calgary. In just six days, on Sunday, Dec. 9, the Calgary Hitmen will host The Brick Teddy Bear Toss. This will be the 24th annual toss with 347,948 bears collected to date.
On Sunday, Dec. 2 the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears established a new world record when fans tossed 34,798 stuffed toys in a game against Binghamton breaking the previous high of 28,815 set by the Calgary Hitmen and their fans in 2015.
"On behalf of the Calgary Hitmen we would like to congratulate the Hershey Bear's on their world record Teddy Bear Toss," said Hitmen Assistant Manager of Business Operations Rob Kerr. "We know that the nearly 35,000 bears will be welcomed by local charities across central Pennsylvania."
"While one week isn't a long time to hold a record we are quite confident that a full building this Sunday will mean that the Teddy Bear Toss world record will return to its rightful owners, the Calgary Hitmen," added Kerr. "We have over 70 agencies in the local area that have requested bears this holiday season and we know Calgarian's are going to rise to the occasion to help their community."
Fans are asked to bring a bear or two or even five and throw them onto the ice when the Hitmen score their first goal on Sunday against the Kamloops Blazers.
Game time is 2:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome with doors opening early at 12:30.
To help reclaim the world record, the Hitmen are calling on hockey fans to help fill the "Dome. Limited tickets are still available for as low as $9.99 for kids and $14.99 for adults (plus applicable fees and taxes).
Tickets can be purchased at any Ticketmaster location or the Scotiabank Saddledome Box Office.
