Addison Named to World Junior Selection Camp

LETHBRIDGE, AB - Hockey Canada announced Monday the roster for the World Junior Selection Camp and Lethbridge Hurricanes defenseman Calen Addison was named to the 34-man camp.

Addison, 18, is one of 12 defenseman that have been invited to the selection camp for Team Canada while one of seven Western Hockey League players. The product of Brandon, Manitoba has recorded 28 points (4g-24a) along with 30 penalty minutes in 27 games this season for the Hurricanes.

The 5'10, 180-pound defenseman was originally drafted second overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft by the Hurricanes. He was selected in the second round, 53rd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL Entry Draft in June after a career-high 65 points (11g-54a) in 68 games last season.

Addison attended the Hockey Canada Summer Showcase in Kamloops in August and was a member of Team WHL for the CIBC Canada Russia Series in November appearing in both games for the WHL. He has represented Canada at both the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge while helping Canada capture gold at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup where he had six points (2g-4a) along with four penalty minutes in five games.

The third-year defenseman is the first Hurricane to attend the World Junior selection camp since Zach Boychuk in 2009.

He will join Hurricanes head coach Brent Kisio at the selection camp which will begin on Sunday, December 9th in Victoria, BC. The tournament will begin on Boxing Day in Victoria and Vancouver.

The Hurricanes will begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday when they visit the Kootenay Ice before traveling to face the Spokane Chiefs on Friday and the Tri-City Americans on Saturday. The 'Canes will return to the ENMAX Centre on Wednesday, December 12th when they welcome the Kelowna Rockets.
