December 3, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), six-time U.S. Division champions and defending Western Conference champion of the Western Hockey League, have acquired right wing Max Patterson from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for the rights to listed forward Dawson Springer and a fourth round selection in the 2020 WHL Draft, Silvertips general manager Garry Davidson announced today.
"Max Patterson has developed into an impact player with size and an elevated offensive skill set, who checks off a lot of boxes for our needs and how he fits into our program," said Davidson. "Our team's ability to openly welcome somebody new to our program speaks volumes of our character and it's evident the way two of his reunited teammates, Sahvan Khaira and Artyom Minulin, have become a great fit very quickly. We're excited to bring him in as a part of the Silvertips family and will look forward to his availability on Wednesday for our next game against Spokane."
Patterson, a late-1999 born forward, will arrive in Everett previously as the leader in points (19) and assists (11) with Swift Current in 27 games this season, additionally tying for the club lead with eight goals. The 6-foot-5, 212-pound forward helped guide Swift Current to the WHL championship last season, suiting up in all 26 playoff games with five goals, two assists and a +3 rating while skating in three Memorial Cup games with the Broncos.
Just before the start of that regular season, he was acquired by Swift Current from the Kootenay Ice on Sept. 10, 2017 in exchange for goaltender Bailey Brkin and a conditional fifth round selection in the 2018 WHL Draft and followed by collecting career-highs in goals (9), assists (15) and points (24) while suiting up in all 72 regular season games.
The native of Kamloops, British Columbia has 226 games of WHL experience with Swift Current and Kootenay, earning 68 points, 32 goals and 102 penalty minutes. He is reunited with Silvertips defensemen Sahvan Khaira and Artyom Minulin, teammates from Swift Current's championship club last season.
Max's father, Ed, skated in 179 career WHL games as a right winger with Seattle, Swift Current, and Kamloops (1988-92) while earning 179 points and 308 penalty minutes and suited up in 68 career National Hockey League games (1993-97) with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He helped Kamloops capture the Memorial Cup title in 1992 with a pair of assists in five tournament games.
Springer, originally listed this season by the Silvertips, is a 2002-born forward who is currently skating with the Prince Albert Mintos (SMHL) and has 25 points (18g-7a) in 21 games.
The Western Conference-leading Silvertips, who have won a season high six straight games, get back to action Wednesday, Dec. 5, at home against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05 p.m. (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App / WHL Live). Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.
