Burzan Wins Telus Monthly Award

December 3, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba - The Brandon Wheat Kings, in association with TELUS, have announced that veteran Luka Burzan has been chosen the hockey club's Player of the Month for November.

An 18-year old Surrey, B.C. product, Burzan is in his second season with the Wheat Kings and third in the Western Hockey League.

A former first round bantam draft choice, Burzan was acquired last January in a blockbuster deal that saw defenceman Kale Clague go to the Warriors.

Burzan, who attended the Ottawa Senators' Development Camp last summer, scored thirteen points in ten November games, including seven goals. That tied him with captain Stelio Mattheos for the club lead last month.

Of those seven goals, four came on the powerplay. He also finished with a plus/minus ranking of +2.

A member of the 2017-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament gold medal winning national team, Burzan has already set a career high for goals in a single season with sixteen. He also has fourteen assists, giving him 30 points in 26 games this year.

Since joining the Warriors in 2016, the 6'1" 190lb forward has 45 goals and 97 points in 165 career WHL games.

Burzan joins Mattheos as a TELUS monthly award winner this season.

This award is presented to the Wheat King, who best demonstrates success - both on and off the ice - as a teammate and role model in the community.

TELUS will present Luka with this monthly award during the first intermission of next this Friday's game against the visiting Prince Albert Raiders at Westoba Place.

Tickets to both of this week's games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com

Burzan and the Wheat Kings will be taking a 3-game win streak into Tuesday night's game against the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers.
