Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB -The Calgary Hitmen closed out three games in three days finishing a home-and-home set with the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Scotiabank Saddledome. A slow start was erased by a triumphant three goal third period to propel Calgary to a 4-3 victory over the visitors.
Medicine Hat struck first, with a goal from Brendan Lee in the first half of the period. Sean Tschigerl would answer tying the game on the power play with under a minute to go in the first. Medicine Hat was able to capitalize twice in the second period with goals from Gavin McKenna and Bogdans Hodass making the score 3-1. At the tail end of the period, a goal from Oliver Tulk was called off, keeping Calgary off the score sheet in the second.
Tulk would eventually get the tally back, finding success in the third period to put Calgary within one. Exactly 10 seconds later Brandon Whynott would tie the game up with helpers from London Hoilett and Keagan Slaney. Following up was Carson Wetsch, putting one past Beckett Langkow with eleven minutes left in the frame to give Calgary their first lead. It is the first point for the rookie since returning to lineup after missing 16 games due to a lower body injury.
Down by one, Medicine Hat pulled Langkow with 2:56 to go in the game. The visitors would get ample zone time and a few chances, but their best attempt was stopped by forward Oliver Tulk who made a miraculous game saving block to give Calgary the win.
Sean Tschigerl earned first star of the game with a goal and assist, while Carson Wetsch earned third star with his game winning tally. Brayden Peters made 27 saves.
Calgary has won three of their last four and now pulls ahead of Medicine Hat into seventh place with 66 points, while Swift Current sits four points back in ninth position.
The Hitmen are on the road for their next two games heading to Lethbridge to face the Hurricanes on Wednesday, Mar. 22 before visiting Edmonton on Saturday, Mar 25 at Rogers Place. Calgary will then complete their 68-game regular season schedule at home on Sunday, Mar. 26 in a 1:00 p.m. start on Fan Appreciation Day at Scotiabank Saddledome.
