Hitmen Bounce Back to Defeat Oil Kings 8-1

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen returned home to the Scotiabank Saddledome to welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings. After a tough loss in Lethbridge last night, Calgary bounced back Sunday with a victory over Edmonton.

Edmonton was the first to strike with a goal from Adam Jecho, which would be their last as Calgary would go on to score eight unanswered. Carson Wetsch would record his first career WHL Hat Trick to round out an 8-1 win.

Calgary's first three goals came on the power play starting with Carter Yakemchuk's tying tally at the halfway mark of the first. Ethan Moore followed up in the second period scoring his 14th of the season to give Calgary their first lead. Tyson Greenway netted Calgary's third power play goal less than five minutes later. The second period would see two more goals, with Carson Wetsch and Keets Fawcett burying to make it 5-1 heading into the final frame.

Wetsch would score his second of the game in the third with helpers from Oliver Tulk and Keets Fawcett. Yakemchuk found the back of the net on the power play in the last five minutes for his second of the game to make it 7-1. With his 23 goals, the NHL Draft hopeful is now tied with Paul Postma for second most goals scored in a single season by a defenceman. Jake Bean owns the franchise record with 24.

In the last minute of regulation, Carson Wetsch closed out the game with the hat trick.

Wetsch and Yakemchuk both earned stars with their multi goal performances, while Ben Kindel proved to be a standout with his four point night. Ethan Buenaventura made 26 saves in tonight's contest and reached the milestone of 5,000 career minutes.

Calgary's four-game homestand continues Wednesday, Feb. 7 when the Regina Pats visit the Scotiabank Saddledome. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Calgary will then welcome Medicine Hat on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. and Moose Jaw on Saturday. Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m. before starting a stretch of five straight on the road in Red Deer on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
