Prince George Cougars News Release
PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars kicked off their four-game home-stand with a 5-3 triumph over the Kamloops Blazers on Sunday afternoon at the CN Centre, coinciding with Nickelodeon Day festivities where the Cougars sported vibrant SpongeBob SquarePants jerseys.
Carlin Dezainde emerged as the hero, securing the tying and go-ahead goals in a gripping third period, propelling the Cats to a well-deserved victory. Adding to the spectacle, Zac Funk dazzled with two goals, further cementing his impressive tally to 46 goals this season. Goaltender Josh Ravensbergen made 11 saves, ultimately clinching his 17th win for the Cougars.
The game ignited with the Cougars seizing the initiative just eight minutes in, courtesy of Zac Funk's 45th season goal, igniting the home crowd with a 1-0 lead. The momentum surged as Bauer Dumanski unleashed a wrist shot from the blue-line, extending the lead to 2-0 just over three minutes later. However, Kamloops swiftly responded with two goals of their own, as Emmitt Finnie and Max Sullivan levelled the playing field before the first period concluded.
In the second period, the Cougars stifled Kamloops' offense, conceding only two shots. Nonetheless, Ryan Michael's point shot found its mark at 13:54, handing Kamloops their first lead of the afternoon at 3-2, which they held onto entering the third period.
Undeterred, the Cougars unleashed a relentless third period, resulting in Carlin Dezainde's equalizer on a partial breakaway at 5:37. The energy surged as Dezainde struck again at 9:39, propelling the Cougars to a 4-3 advantage. Seconds later, Zac Funk buried his second goal of the day less than a minute later, securing a 5-3 triumph and igniting jubilation among the 3545 fans at the CN Centre.
The Cats resume action this Friday and Saturday, hosting the Victoria Royals at the CN Centre.
