Pats Beat Rebels 7-6 in Shootout

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats broke a two-game skid with a 7-6 shootout win over the Red Deer Rebels on Sunday inside the Brandt Centre.

Braxton Whitehead and Tanner Howe scored in the shootout, with Howe getting the winner, lifting the Pats to their 14th victory on home ice and 18th overall.

Tye Spencer (2G-1A) and Tye Gibson (3A) led the way with three point games, while Ewan Huet picked up his ninth win of the season. Tanner Howe (1G-1A), Zach Moore (1G-1A), Sam Oremba (1G-1A) and Braxton Whitehead all chipped in with multi-point games while Zackary Shantz scored his first career short-handed goal.

Sunday night's battle saw five different lead changes. The Pats opened the scoring in the first and were tied 2-2 after one period of play and 3-3 after two. The Rebels took a 5-3 lead in the third before the Pats answered with three of their own to take a 6-5 lead. Kai Uchacz scored three times in the third period, with the third being the tying goal to force extra-time.

The Pats completed their third shootout win of the season as well as their sixth victory in extra-time.

THE GOALS

First Period

1-0 Pats at 3:04 - Tye Spencer (16), assisted by Tanner Howe & Ty Gibson (PP) // The Pats worked the powerplay to perfection as Howe sent a cross-ice pass to Spencer who ripped a one-timer past Stoesser to give the Pats a 1-0 lead early in the first period.

1-1 Rebels at 11:13 - Frantisek Formanek (13), assisted by Matteo Fabrizi & Jace Weir // Fabrizi's shot looked to be going wide but Formanek was able to get a piece of the shot and tipped it past Huet to tie the game up at 1-1.

2-1 Rebels at 13:54 - Mats Lindgren (7), assisted by Jhett Larson & Samuel Dranchak // Larson and Lindgren pass the puck between themselves with the last pass to Lindgren who ripped a long blast past Huet to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead.

2-2 Pats at 18:20 - Zackary Shantz (6), assisted by Braxton Whitehead (SH) // The Pats broke in two-on-one and Whitehead found Shantz behind the defence and he made no mistake as he tucked the puck past Stoesser to tie the game up at 2-2.

Second Period

3-2 Rebels at 1:13 - Kalan Lind (10), assisted by Ollie Josephson & Hunter Mayo (PP) // Josephson sent the puck to Lind who got low in the Pats zone and he was able to go undetected and tucked the puck past Huet to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead early in the second.

3-3 Pats at 5:42 - Tanner Howe (23), assisted by Zachary Moore & Braxton Whitehead // Moore sent a pass toward Howe and the puck deflected off a defender back to Howe who made no mistake as he tied the game up at 3-3.

Third Period

4-3 Rebels at 16 seconds - Kai Uchacz (31), assisted by Jhett Larson & Jace Larson // Uchacz picked up the puck amongst legs in the Pats' zone and he sent a quick shot past Huet to give the Rebels a 4-3 lead early in the third period.

5-3 Rebels at 5:37 - Kai Uchcaz (32), assisted by Jhett Larson & Frantisek Formanek // Larson sent a pass to the front of the Pats net where Uchacz was able to get a piece of the puck and direct it past Huet to give the Rebels a 5-3 lead.

5-4 Pats at 11:12 - Tye Spencer (17), assisted by Ty Gibson & Sam Oremba (PP) // A beautiful cross-ice pass from Gibson found Spencer who one-timed it past Stoesser to pull the Pats to within one at 5-4.

5-5 Pats at 14:01 - Zach Moore (3), assisted by Ty Gibson // Gibson's shot ended back of the net, Moore slashed at the puck and it popped over the back of the net and off Stoesser's head and in to tie the game at 5-5.

6-5 Pats at 16:08 - Sam Oremba (14), assisted by Tye Spencer // Oremba's initial shot went off the crossbar and the puck bounced right back to him and he fired it home to give the Pats a 6-5 lead.

6-6 Rebels at 18:23 - Kai Uchacz (33), assisted by Hunter Mayo & Jett Larson // Just as the Rebels were pulling their goalie for an extra attacker, Uchacz found himself beside the Pats net and he got a shot off post and in to tie the game at 6-6.
