THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg and Frederick split a pair of contests last night at City Stadium...The Keys took the series opener by a final of 10-6 and the Hillcats won the night cap, 3-1...The first game began on Friday night and was completed last night after play was suspended in the fourth inning...Tonight the Cats play game three of this four-game set and brief four-game homestand...
VS. FREDERICK: Lynchburg and Frederick are playing their sixth and final series against each other...The Hillcats are 12-5 versus the Keys and they are 5-2 at City Stadium...Last season the Keys won the season series against the Cats 12-7 and went 6-3 in the Hill City...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage 156-135 and they are 80-66 at Calvin Falwell Field...The Hillcats are 4-0-1 in the five series against the Keys this season...The win on Sunday night at Harry Grove Stadium finished Lynchburg's ten games at Frederick this season with a 7-3 mark...The Cats best record against an opponent overall, at home and on the road are all versus the Keys...
EAGER FOR AUGUST: The Hillcats went 10-18 in the month of July, their only under .500 month thus far in the 2009 season...May was Lynchburg's best month of the season, when they posted a 19-9 mark...
NORTHERN LIGHTS: Lynchburg just played a pair of series versus their northern most opponents, Wilmington and Frederick...Before the road trip the Hillcats played a series against Potomac, another Northern Division foe...The series with Frederick makes it four series in a row (13 games) against the Cats divisional opponents...Thus far they are 4-7 over this stretch...
WONDERFUL WILLIE: LHP Justin Wilson tossed six shutout innings en route to his fifth win of the season last night...The six innings of action matches his longest start of his young professional career...With the six scoreless frames he dealt last night, Wilson now has worked 15 and 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing a run...He has gone five innings or more in five of his last six starts after he got through five innings just five times in his first 14 outings...In his last five starts the former Fresno State Bulldog is 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA (five earned runs in 26 and 1/3 innings)...
HUBER HANDLING HIGH-A: UTIL Erik Huber went a combined 5-for-6 in the first two games of this series and is now 8-for-10 in his last three contests...In 13 games thus far with the Hillcats he is batting .449 (22-for-49) with seven doubles, 11 RBI and six runs...On Sunday night in Frederick he went 6-for-6 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored...The six hits were a career-high and the most by a Hillcat this season...Four times this season a Cat had collected four hits before Huber's six-hit performance a night ago...Huber had five four-hit games while with West Virginia this season, including three in the month of June that he batted an even .400 in...The six hits matches the most ever by a Hillcat as only two others have had six base knocks in the same ballgame (Justin Martin on May 19th, 2001 and Ray Navarrete on June 9th, 2002)...Huber is now 11-for-17 (.647) versus Frederick (11-for-12 in his last three games) and is 5-for-5 against RHP Sean Gleason...
PICKING UP THE PACE: UTIL Jose De Los Santos has stolen a base in each of his last three games and now has 44 swipes on the season in fifty attempts...He is third in the Carolina League in the category...In the month of July De Los Santos stole 13 bases in 26 games after he stole seven bags in 24 games in June...He also batted .295 (31-for-105) in July after he posted a .163 (16-for-98) average in June...He is now seven steals back of the top spot in the CL...
LOOKING FOR THE REAL THING: RHP Mike Colla allowed four runs on five hits in two and 1/3 innings of work in the series opener of this set...In his last eight outings he is 1-1 with a 6.87 ERA in his last eight games and has allowed a run in six of those appearances...This after he began the season 4-0 with a 0.86 earned run average...His ERA is now 3.08 after his last game...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Zach Britton was selected in the third round of the 2006 draft by the Orioles out of high school in Weatherford, Texas...He made his professional debut with Bluefield at the Rookie level that year and went 0-4 with a 5.29 ERA in 11 starts...In 2007 Britton pitched for Aberdeen at the Short Season Low-A level and posted a 6-4 mark with a 3.68 ERA in 15 starts...Last season he moved up to full season Low-A with Delmarva and went 12-7 with a 3.12 ERA in 27 starts...This season he began the year with Frederick at the Advanced-A level and in 19 games (18 starts) he has a 7-4 mark with a 2.72 ERA and was named to the mid-season All-Star team...He made two starts against Lynchburg this season and is 0-1 with a 1.64 ERA...
