Five Costly Errors Send Frederick to 6-2 Loss

August 1, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

Leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the Keys fell to shambles in the field, committing five errors over the next three innings in a 6-2 defeat in Lynchburg on Saturday night.

With the game tied at 1-1, the Keys had Hillcats RF Erik Huber in a rundown between third base and home plate with two outs. Keys C Caleb Joseph's throw struck Huber and ricocheted away, allowing a run to score putting Lynchburg up 2-1. Later in the same inning, RF Billy Rowell muffed a routine fly ball to right field as the Hillcats scored three unearned runs in the critical four-run rally.

The five errors was the second most committed by the Keys in 2009.

Even 3B Brandon Waring was afflicted by the bug. The Keys infielder had a big game at the plate going 3-for-3 with two doubles, each leading to runs. But Waring committed two errors in the fifth inning leading to another Lynchburg run.

Frederick reliever Ryan Rodriguez worked a scoreless ninth inning extending a run of 11 appearance since re-joining the Keys without allowing a run.

The series concludes Sunday, August 2nd at 6:05 p.m. with Rick Zagone looking to even the series for Frederick atop the hill.

The Keys return home for its most important series of the year against the first place Potomac Nationals Monday, August 3rd at 7:00 p.m. It will be Kids Eat Free Monday at Harry Grove Stadium.
