Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Woodbridge, VA -Justin Edwards was dominant on the mound in leading Winston-Salem to a 5-0 win over Potomac on Saturday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Edwards (3-2) tossed seven shutout innings and held the Nationals to three hits with a season-high five strikeouts to garner his third win since joining the Dash on June 18 from Low-A Kannapolis.
The Dash took their first lead of the series and managed all the offense they would need with a run against Adam Carr in the third inning. Second baseman Dale Mollenhauer connected on a one-out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Greg Pail popped out, first baseman Jimmy Gallagher lined a two-out, RBI single into center field to put Winston-Salem in front 1-0.
The Dash added a pair of runs against Carr in the top of the sixth as third baseman Brent Morel led off with a double and designated hitter Seth Loman followed with an RBI double. After another wild pitch moved Loman to third, Tyler Kuhn delivered a run-scoring sacrifice fly to give Winston-Salem a 3-0 lead.
Salvador Sanchez started a two-run rally when he smashed a solo home run off Justin Phillibaum to lead off the ninth inning. It was the first batter faced by the Nationals reliever, who was promoted to Potomac earlier in the day. Later in the inning, Logan Johnson doubled and moved to third on another wild pitch. After Mollenahuaer was intentionally walked with two outs, Paiml lined an RBI single to finalize the scoring.
The Dash bullpen finished off what Edwards started as Nate Jones and Santo Luis each worked a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the shutout. Carr (1-2) tossed a season-high six innings and allowed three runs on nine hits to suffer the loss. A night after being held to a season-low two hits, the Dash registered 12 hits with everyone in the lineup registering at least one hit.
The Dash and Nationals conclude this four-game series on Sunday afternoon at Pfitzner Stadium. Winston-Salem will send RHP Gregory Infante (1-0, 4.91) to the mound, while Potomac is expected to turn to RHP Hassan Pena (0-1, 6.75). The first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
The Dash returns to Wake Forest Baseball Park on Monday, August 3 when they open a seven-game home stand with the first of three against Wilmington. Single-game tickets can be purchased online at www.wsdash.com or by calling the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
