Last night the Hillcats and Nationals split a twin bill, the first of which completed a suspended game from August 4... Potomac took the suspended game 8-7 after leading 8-2 through three innings, then Lynchburg won the second game, 5-2 in seven innings...Tonight is the sixth game of a an eight-game road trip that will wrap up a stretch of 13 out of 16 on the road...
VS. POTOMAC: The Hillcats are 7-10 against the Nationals thus far this season, going 4-6 at City Stadium and 3-4 at Pfitzner Stadium...Lynchburg is 161-155 against Potomac all-time...Last season the Cats won the season series with the P-Nats 11-9...
FLY AWAY FROM HERE: The Hillcats are now 10-7 in their last 17 road games...On the flip side, they are 3-13 in their last 16 games at home...The Cats went 2-3 on their most recent road swing and 4-3 on the one prior to that...Those two road swings included series victories at Winston-Salem and Frederick, the two teams that won their respective divisions in the first half...
LIVIN' ON THE EDGE: The second game of the night had a similar ring to it...In the first two games of the Kinston series, the Hillcats starter went seven innings and gave up one run, RHP Justin Freeman pitched the eighth inning for a hold, LHP Donnie Joseph pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the win and OF Denis Phipps homered... in the second game, a seven-inning affair, RHP Blair Carson threw five innings and gave up two runs, Freeman pitched a scoreless sixth for his 10th hold and Joseph picked up his 13th save with Lynchburg after a scoreless seventh... Phipps also homered in the first inning...
WALK THIS WAY: LHP Justin Walker tossed five scoreless innings Sunday to earn his first win at the Advanced-A level...Though he didn't appear in last night's completion of the suspended game, his ERA increased from 0.00 to 11.37... Walker started the August 4th suspended game and gave up eight runs on nine hits in just an inning and 1/3...In his four previous starts before Sunday's (three with Low-A Dayton and one with Lynchburg) he was 0-2 with a 18.98 ERA (26 earned runs in 12 and 1/3 innings)...
BACK IN THE SADDLE: OF Josh Fellhauer homered in last night's completion of the suspended game... It was his first home run since June 27, and sixth on the season... He went 2-for-4 with the home run, RBI and two runs scored... The multi-hit game was also his first since July 21... Fellhauer hit just under .300 for the first two months of the season before ending the first half with a .260 average... Since June 1, his average has dropped from .280 to .249...
HOLE IN MY SOUL: C Jordan Wideman went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run and threw out a potential base thief Thursday...This was just one day after he received the news that one of his five sisters had passed away... He left the team Friday to attend the funeral in Canada, and rejoined the team in Potomac Sunday night... Yesterday he went 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored...It was Wideman's fourth multi-hit game (second straight) of the season and the first contest all year that he had three hits...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Adrian Alaniz was selected by Washington in the eighth round of the 2007 draft out of the University of Texas...He went a combined 27-10 for the Longhorns in three seasons, helped them to a College World Series Title his freshman season in 2005 and in 2007 he was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year...That same year he made his professional debut with Short Season Low-A Vermont and went 8-2 with a 2.39 ERA in 13 games (eight starts)...In 2008 he began the season with Potomac and had a 9-0 mark with a 2.62 ERA in 12 starts before getting promoted to Double-A Harrisburg...With the Senators he went 0-5 with a 3.93 ERA in 13 starts...Last season he returned to Harrisburg where he went 3-4 with a 4.76 ERA in 24 games (10 starts)...Last year he also made two starts with Vermont and had a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA...This season he has returned to the P-Nats and posted a 6-3 mark with a 2.36 ERA and one save in 20 games (eight starts)...Lynchburg has seen him three times this season, the first two times in relief and didn't allow a run in six and 1/3 innings of work...He started against the Hillcats June 11 and threw 5.1 innings and allowed 10 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K in an eventual 3-0 win for Lynchburg...
