Frederick struck first on Tuesday night but could not hold onto the lead as Myrtle Beach tallied 10 runs on 13 hits in the 10-5 victory. Errors played a roll in the contest as well. The Keys committed three errors on the evening as four of the Pelicans 10 runs were unearned. Following the loss, Frederick fell to 22-22 in the second-half of the season.
In the first inning, the Keys put together a two-out rally to score two runs against LHP Matt Crim. With two down, RF Ronnie Welty and SS Pedro Florimon each walked. 2B LJ Hoes singled to rightfield to bring home Welty and DH Billy Rowell hit chopper into centerfield to bring home Florimon. Tuesday was the first time Rowell started since August 3. He held out of the lineup for a week because an oblique strain.
The Pelicans scored a run in the bottom of the first off of RHP Ryan O'Shea. DH Dan Nelson hit an opposite field homerun to cut the Myrtle Beach deficit to one run after the first inning.
SS Mycal Jones led off the bottom of the third inning with solo homerun off of O'Shea. After CF Cory Harrilchak struck out, O'Shea walked Dan Nelson and 1B Mike Jones. 2B Jordan Kreke hit a slow roller to the left side of the infield that could have ended the inning but SS Pedro Florimon's throw went into rightfield as Dan Nelson scored from second base. RF Gerry Rodriguez hit a sac fly to centerfield to give Myrtle Beach a 4-2 lead after three innings.
C Phillip Britton drove home LF Bobby Stevens on a RBI double to leftfield but Myrtle Beach countered in the bottom of the inning when Mycal Jones belted his second homerun of the night to rightfield.
Myrtle Beach scored a run in sixth, a run in the seventh, and three more in the eighth as they cruised the victory in the game two of the four-game series.
In the loss, RHP Ryan O'Shea fell to 6-7 on the year while RHP Thomas Berryhill 1-1 out of the bullpen and RHP Angelo Paulino closed out the game for his third save of the season.
Prior to Tuesday night's game, CF Xavier Avery was promoted to Double-A Bowie. Avery hit .280 with four homeruns and 48 RBI on the season. The 2008 second round pick was second in the Carolina League in runs scored with 73 and second in stolen bases with 28.
Frederick will try to forget about the loss on Tuesday night as they send RHP Luis Noel (3-1, 5.47) to the hill for the game three of the four-game series. RHP J.J. Hoover (9-6, 3.51) will get the nod for Myrtle Beach. First pitch is set for 7:05 from BB&T Coastal Field with coverage starting at 6:45 on the Frederick Keys Baseball Network.
