The Cedar Rapids Kernels today announced that right-handed pitcher Brok Butcher has been placed on the disabled list due to elbow pain in his right arm. Taking his place on the Kernels roster will be right-handed pitcher Andy Hill. Hill joins the Kernels from the Angels extended spring training facility in Tempe, AZ.

Butcher, a 25th round pick by the Angels in the 2005 free agent draft, has not pitched for the team since May 15 when the Kernels dropped an 18-14 decision to the LumberKings.

Hill, a 12th round pick by the Angels in the 2003 free agent draft, spent the .rst two seasons of his professional career in the Arizona League before pitching for Orem in the Pioneer League in 2005. With the Owlz last season Hill was 3-4 with a 4.64 ERA in 13 games (four starts). In 33 innings Hill struck out 32 and walked 14 while surrendering 35 hits.

A native of Olympia, WA, Hill will take the place of left-handed starter Kelly Shearer in the Kernels rotation. Shearer was placed on the disabled list earlier this week and has left the team for California where he will undergo 'Tommy John' surgery. Hill will take his .rst turn in the Kernels' rotation on Memorial Day when the Kernels play the .rst of a four-game series at Clinton's Alliant Energy Field.

Hill's addition leaves the Kernels active roster at 25 players, the maximum allowed by the Midwest League.

The Kernels are currently in the middle of a four-game series with the Swing of the Quad Cities. Friday's second game of the series starts at 7 p.m. at Davenport's John O'Donnell Stadium.
