South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend - The South Bend Silver Hawks have fallen into a trend recently of winning a game or two and following that with a pair of losses. Since May 6, the Hawks have either alternated a win and a loss or won a pair followed by two losses. Friday night, the Hawks continued the trend, snapping a two game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Dayton Dragons.
For the 30th time this season, the Silver Hawks opponents started the scoring. In the first, Mike Griffin reached on an infield single to the left side. After Eric Eymann flied out and Jay Bruce struck out, Mike Griffin stole second and gave the Dragons a 1-0 lead when he was plated on B. J. Szymanski's double to left field.
The Hawks battled back in for a pair in the second. Ricardo Sosa opened with a double to left and came around to score when Frank Curreri doubled to left field, knotting the game at one. A wild pitch by Dayton starter Philippe Valiquette advanced Curreri to third and he crossed the plate on a run scoring single by Steve Mena for a 2-1 Hawks lead.
Hawks starter Ryan Schreppel (2-5) gets the win and Philippe Valiquette (1-4) suffers the loss.
The Silver Hawks (21-25) and Dragons continue their four game set Saturday night with first pitch at 6:30 PM and gates opening at 5:30 PM.
