Lansing Wins Third Consecutive Game

Fort Wayne, Ind. - Four first inning runs and a strong effort from the bullpen lifted the Lansing Lugnuts to a 5-3 victory over the Fort Wayne Wizards on Friday evening at Memorial Stadium. It is the Lugnuts third straight win, all coming against the Wizards.

The Lugnuts first inning barrage began when Anthony Hatch blasted a two run homer to right field to give Lansing a 2-0 lead. After Cory Patton singled to right, David Hicks smashed a double off of the right-center field wall to plate Patton and push the lead to 3-0. Anthony Garibaldi's single to center field scored Hicks to make the score 4-0.

Fort Wayne fought back in the bottom half of the inning with two run double off of the bat of Will Venable to make the score 4-2.

An RBI single by Seth Johnston closed the gap to 4-3 in the fourth frame, scoring Jesus Lopez from third base.

The Lugnuts extended the lead back to two runs in the seventh inning however when Luke Hetherington smacked a solo homer to center field to make the score 5-3.

The Lugnuts bullpen was solid for the Lugnuts, tossing six innings and allowing just one run on four hits. Sean Stidfole got the win with three innings of work, while Paul Phillips picked up the save after tossing a perfect eighth and ninth.

Lansing (28-18) and Fort Wayne (22-23) will meet again on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Kristian Bell (3-3, 3.53) will start for the Lugnuts, while Grant Varnell (1-5, 4.43) will take the ball for the Wizards.
