Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GENEVA, IL -- The Kane County Cougars were red hot and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were ice cold heading into the game between the teams at Elfstrom Stadium on Friday night. Both trends continued. Kane County won their ninth straight game with a 5-3 victory over the Rattlers. Wisconsin has now lost four straight to fall to a season low eleven games under .500.
Mike Massaro doubled to start the Kane County first. A sacrifice bunt by Nick Blasi moved Massaro to third. Frank Martinez put the Cougars up 1-0 with a sacrifice fly to right.
JB Tucker drew a two out walk in the top of the fourth inning and Ledbetter crushed a 1-0 pitch from Cougar starting pitcher Vincent Mazzaro over the wall leftcenter for his first Timber Rattler home run and a 2-1 lead. But, that was the last threat the Rattlers would have. Lebetter's homer, the third basehit of the game for the Rattlers, was the final hit of the night for Wisconsin.
The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a two out RBI single by Jose Pineda.
Rattler starting pitcher Jose Escalona got into trouble in the fifth. He retired the first two batters of the inning, but gave up a single to Nick Blasi. A wild pitch put Blasi into scoring position. Martinez made Escalona pay for that wild pitch with an RBI single for a 3-2 Cougar lead.
A passed ball put Martinez in scoring position and Jeff Baisley followed with an RBI single for a 4-2 lead. On the throw to the plate Baisley took second and alertly took third when no Rattler player was covering the base. Steve Kleen was next on the hit parade and delivered a single to center that scored Baisley for a 5-2 lead.
Mazzaro pitched six innings and gave up three hits for his fifth win of the season. Two Kane County reliever pitched three perfect innings to close out the Rattlers.
Game three of the series is Saturday night. Jason Snyder (2-4, 4.79ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Kane County will counter with Jeff Gray (2-4, 6.50ERA). Game time at Elfstrom Stadium is 6:00pm.
