Herrera shines in Chiefs 8-2 Win

PEORIA, IL- Juan Herrera had a career-night at the plate going four-for-four with four RBI. Rob Kaminsky notched his fourth win, tossing a career-high seven shutout innings as the Peoria Chiefs beat the Quad Cities River Bandits 8-2. With the Monday night win, The Chiefs are now 8-3 in the second half of the season and 45-35 overall.

The Chiefs started off the scoring by plating three runs in the first. Vaughn Bryan led off with a single, CJ McElroy Jr. and Justin Ringo both walked to load the bases with no outs. Jandel Gustave struck out the next two batters before Juan Herrera hit a two-run infield single. Steve Bean followed with a RBI single for a 3-0 lead.

The Chiefs scored another three runs in the third to go up 6-0 on Quad Cities. Carson Kelly led off with a walk, Mason Katz reached after being hit by a pitch, then Herrera drove home Kelly on a RBI single. Kenny Peoples-Walls plated Katz later in the inning with a single to left. Herrera scored the final run of the inning on a groundout by Michael Schulze.

Peoria tacked on another run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Katz, which scored McElroy Jr. to make it a 7-0 game. Herrera ripped a RBI single to right in the sixth, scoring McElroy to give the Chiefs an 8-0 lead. Herrera had a career-high four hits and four RBI in just his second day back from the DL.

Steven Sabatino gave up a leadoff double to start the ninth. After hitting Brett Phillips to put runners on first and second, Sabatino got two straight pop outs in foul territory. Quad Cities scored their first two runs of the game off an error by McElroy Jr. in centerfield. Sabatino struck out Ronnie Mitchell to end the game and give the Chiefs an 8-2 victory.

Kaminsky (4-1) tossed seven shutout innings allowing only three hits, walking none, and striking out seven. Kaminsky lowered his ERA to a team-best 1.26 while notching his fourth quality start of the season. Sabatino gave up two unearned runs off two hits, walked none, and struck out two in two innings of work. Sabatino still has not allowed an earned run in 16 2/3 innings of work thus far.
