Lake County Captains News Release
(Dayton, OH)- Nellie Rodriguez blasted a three-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning, to cap a six run outburst as the Captains went on to beat the Dragons 13-2 on Monday. Rodriguez now has 10 homeruns on the season and 35 RBI. The Captains have won four straight series.
Lake County scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Claudio Bautista lined the first pitch of the game to left field for a single, Nellie Rodriguez had an infield single and Torsten Boss walked to load the bases. Dorssys Paulino laced a double to left field and all three runners scored. On the throw to the plate, Paulino took third. The throw sailed into the dugout and Paulino was awarded home. The score was 4-0 Lake County before Dayton got to bat.
Dayton got a run back in the bottom of the second inning. Joe Hudson singled and moved to second on a walk to Jonathan Reynoso and raced around to score on a single from Carlton Daal. The throw to the plate was cut off and Reynoso was thrown out at third. The score was 4-1. Grant Fink blasted a solo homerun down the left field line in the top of the third inning and the lead was back to 5-1 for the Captains.
Richard Stock doubled home Nellie Rodriguez in the ninth inning and the Captains took the 13-2 lead. That was the final. The eleven run win was the largest of the season for the Captains.
Grant Fink was at it again in the top of the fifth inning. Fink blasted a solo shot to left field his second homer of the game and the score was 6-1 Lake County. Dayton scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI single from Daniel Pigott. The score was 6-2 Captains after five innings.
RHP Dace Kime (4-9) started the game for Lake County and earned the win. Kime pitched five and one third innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs. Kime walked five and struck out five. Kime has now won four straight starts. Wander Beras pitched two and two thirds innings of scoreless relief. Beras did not yield a hit and fanned three. Carlos Melo entered in the ninth inning for the Captains
RHP Sal Romano (4-8) started for the Dragons and took the loss. Romano pitched five and one third innings and allowed ten hits and nine hits. Seven of the nine runs were earned. Romano walked one and struck out six. Romano allowed both homers to Grant Fink. Dayton used two relievers on the night. The bullpen combined to pitch three and two thirds innings and allowed four runs, three of the four were earned they struck out five.
The Captains will open a three game home series on Tuesday Night vs. Bowling Green. The Captains will send LHP Luis Lugo (5-6, 4.70) to the mound to start the ballgame. The Hot Rods will counter with RHP Jake Faria (3-4, 3.82). First Pitch is at 7:00 PM from Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.
Tuesday is the second annual Salute to Canadian Baseball where the Captains will celebrate Canada's favourite pastime not played with a puck and stick, eh. The night coincides with Canada Day which celebrates the birthday of Canada. On July 1, 1867 Canada became a new federation with its own constitution by signing the Constitution Act - formerly known as the British North America Act.
On this date, fans who wear an Expos or Blue Jays cap will be admitted free to the game, because like all Canadians, we are welcoming of all individuals to Classic Park. Upon entering the stadium for their big night "ooot", fans will receive a Blue Jays and Expos baseball card depicting past players who donned the uniforms of these two iconic clubs. Throughout the game, the Captains will give away prizes from Canadian-based baseball clubs to fans who are holding lucky player cards.
In-game promotions will include trivia contests, a Maple Syrup Chugging contest and Canadian Tuxedo Denim Shirt toss. As an added bonus, the winner of the Captains Charities 50/50 Raffle Game that night will also take home an authentic Vancouver Canadians Road Jersey, which on-field host Grover! will don throughout the evening.
In addition to enjoying listening to both French and English-speaking public address announcers, fans who show their passports may purchase half-price LaBatt beverages and the Captains will also be offering Canadian Bacon-wrapped hot dogs.
