MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (6-5, 38-42) could not cash in on scoring opportunities and lost 2-1 to the Great Lakes Loons (5-6, 40-41) on Monday night to split the four-game series at Dow Diamond.

Lansing hit 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position, stranding eight runners on base for the night.

The Lugnuts hit three doubles in the fourth inning, but plated only one run in the frame. Mitch Nay came in to score on an RBI double by Dickie Joe Thon, but Dawel Lugo only moved from second base to third on the play. Starting pitcher Jonathan Martinez (Win, 7-5) recorded the final two outs of the inning to strand two on and thwart the scoring chance.

Great Lakes scored both of their runs on an RBI single by Webster Rivas in the third inning against Lansing starter Frank Viola III (Loss, 2-2).

The knuckleballer worked three innings, allowing three hits, two runs, two walks, two hit batsmen and two strikeouts, before departing.

Lansing relievers Phil Kish and Brady Dragmire finished things up scorelessly, with Kish working the fourth through the sixth innings and Dragmire handling the seventh and eighth.

Great Lakes reliever Matt Campbell (Save, 1) worked a perfect ninth inning to close out the win.

Center fielder D.J. Davis finished the night 3-for-4 with a triple and a stolen base.

The Lugnuts open a three-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. Right-hander Chase De Jong (0-4, 4.62) starts on the mound for Lansing, with lefty Kevin Ziomek (6-5, 2.40) pitching for the Whitecaps.
