Hens Win 300th Sellout in Walk-Off Fashion

May 20, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Pitching dominated in the 300th sellout in the history of Fifth Third Field, but a four-run ninth inning rally helped the Hens emerge victorious 5-2 in walk-off fashion.

It looked like scoring would be the theme for the third game in a row after Corey Brown opened the game with a lead-off home run to right off Casey Crosby. The young lefty then took control and allowed five hits through eight innings while striking out five. Syracuse squeezed out another run off Crosby in the seventh courtesy of a Brett Carroll sacrifice fly.

Before the ninth, the Hens' lone run came in the fourth from an Eric Patterson RBI single to score Justin Henry. The Hens had just three hits going into the ninth and seemed doomed for their fifth straight loss. The Hens then rallied for four hits and four runs in the ninth to emerge victorious after a three-run Brad Eldred pinch-hit walk-off home run.

Both teams will meet again early tomorrow in game three of the series. Thad Weber is set to start for the Hens and first pitch is at 10:30 a.m. as the Hens host their second School Celebration Day of the season.

Game Notes

The crowd of 9,973 was part of the 300th sellout in the history of Fifth Third Field.

The lead-off homerun was the first surrendered by the Hens since Kevin Russo hit one for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 16, 2011.

This was the first walk-off win for the Hens this season and their first since July 31, 2011 off the bat of Scott Thorman.
