Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release
Columbus, OH - Columbus starting pitcher David Huff has two wins in three starts and both wins have come against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He earned his second win this afternoon against the Yankees, throwing five shutout innings allowing just three hits and striking out four. The Clippers bullpen followed suit to earn a 4-1 victory over the Yankees at Huntington Park in Columbus, Oh.
Andy LaRoche put the Clippers on the board in the bottom half of the first inning with a home run to left field off of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Dellin Betances giving the Clippers the 1-0 advantage.
Chad Huffman roped a one out double to left field and then moved over to third on a fielder's choice off the bat of Beau Mills. Huffman then scored from third on a wild pitch, extending the Columbus lead to 2-0.
Mills extended the Clippers lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run over the right field wall off of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre reliever Mike O'Connor. Mills added another solo home run in the bottom of the eighth bringing the Columbus lead to 4-0..
Ronnier Mustelier crushed his third homer of the year to right field in the top half of the ninth inning. However, it was too little too late as the Clippers held on for the 4-1 victory. Kevin Russo and Brandon Laird were the only hitters in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lineup with two hits.
Despite allowing just two runs on four hits, Betances suffered the loss for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The tall right-hander struck out four, but walked three and fell to 2-4 on the season. O'Connor pitched the remaining 3.1 innings allowing two runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out two.
Scott Barnes and Hector Ambriz continued what Huff started by combining to throw four innings allowing just one run on two hits and striking out two. Ambriz was credited with his first save of the season.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Columbus will play the third game of a four game series at Huntington Park tomorrow evening. Right-hander D.J. Mitchell (3-1, 2.75) takes the mound for the Yankees, while the Clippers counter with right-hander Corey Kluber (3-3, 3.38). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
