May 20, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Norfolk Tides News Release
Lew Ford's three hits led a 12-hit attack as Norfolk knocked off Pawtucket 6-3 Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.
Ford finished 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored, as he upped his average to .500 (6-for-12) in three games since joining Norfolk on Friday. The 35-year-old outfielder contributed two-out run-scoring hits in both the sixth and eighth innings to help the Tides pick up their second straight win over the International League's top club.
Miguel Tejada was impressive in his Tides debut, as he finished with two singles and an RBI in four at-bats. Tejada popped out in the second, singled in the fourth and fifth, and lined out to center in the eighth. The 2002 AL MVP served as the designated hitter in the contest.
Brad Bergesen (2-2) picked up the win as he allowed three runs on four hits in six-plus innings. Bergesen, who was making his first appearance for Norfolk since being outrighted from Baltimore, walked one and struck out four.
Stu Pomeranz pitched the final 2.1 innings to earn his second save of the season. Pomeranz allowed two hits while striking out one, and he's now thrown 27.2 scoreless innings between Bowie, Norfolk and Baltimore this season.
Chris Robinson and Ty Kelly each had two hits, while Blake Davis singled and drove in two.
Josh Kroeger had three hits and a run scored to lead Pawtucket's offense, while Scott Podsednik belted a two-run home run.
Brandon Duckworth suffered the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
The two clubs will square off again Monday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 7:15. Chris Tillman (3-5, 4.79) takes the hill for Norfolk against Pawtucket right-hander Doug Mathis (2-2, 5.02).
