Abbotsford Heat News Release


The Abbotsford Heat have just returned from a three games in three nights road trip through the West Division. The HEAT began the trip in Milwaukee versus the Admirals and after the HEAT won their first three meetings, the Admirals prevailed in the final matchup of the regular season 4-1.

On Friday night, David Shantz posted his first shutout in a HEAT jersey, turning aside 27 shots in a 6-0 shutout win over the Peoria Rivermen. The Heat received two goals from Jason Jaffray in the victory.

On Saturday night, the HEAT were bounced in Rockford by the score of 6-3. The Hogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after just three minutes, and 4-1 after one period of play. The HEAT closed the gap to 4-3 after two periods, but two goals in the third period propelled the HOGS to the win.

The HEAT will now play four home games in five nights. This Tuesday and Wednesday, the Montreal Canadiens affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs, make their first appearance in the Fraser Valley. On Friday and Saturday, the HEAT will welcome the New York Islanders affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to the AESC for a pair of games.

Jason Jaffray leads the HEAT in goals (8) and points (16), David Van Der Gulik from Abbotsford BC leads the team with nine assists. Mikeal Backlund leads all HEAT rookies with 7 goals and 10 points while rookie rearguard John Negrin of West Vancouver BC is the points leader on the d-line with 2 goals and nine points.

Leland Irving, despite two losses last week, still sports a decent goals against average of 2.58 and a save percentage of.913.
