#1 Rookie Logan Couture extends point streak to six games with a goal and two assists in 7-3L to Lowell on Wednesday and then is promoted back to San Jose!

#2 Steven Zalewski scored twice in 5-3L to Providence on Sunday.

11.11.09 - Worcester 3 - Lowell 7 - DCU Center

Logan Couture scored a goal and added two assists in his return from San Jose but the Sharks fell 7-3 to the Devils on Veterans Day at the DCU Center. Benn Ferriero recorded two assists in his first game in a Worcester sweater after 17 games in San Jose. Frazer McLaren scored his first of the season for the Sharks but the Devils had seven different goal scorers to lead the way. Alex Stalock made 7 saves on 11 shots before he was pulled at 9:45 of the 2nd period as Tyson Sexsmith was 13-for-16 the rest of the way.

11.13.09 - Worcester 1 - Lowell 5 - Tsongas Arena

Michael Wilson scored a shorthanded goal in the third period but Tyler Eckford scored twice and added an assist as the Sharks fell to the Devils in Lowell 5-1. Tyson Sexsmith made 31 saves in net for Worcester and Kevin Henderson recorded his first professional point (assist). Brandon Mashinter picked up a fighting major in his third straight game (7th overall) with a 3rd period bout with Louis Robitaille.

11.14.09 - Worcester 0 - Hartford 4 - DCU Center

Chad Johnson made 35 saves for Hartford as the Sharks were shutout for the first time this season in a 4-0 loss at the DCU Center in front of 5,107 fans. Alex Stalock made 20 saves in net for Worcester. The Sharks outshot the Wolf Pack 35-24 as Worcester went 0-for-7 on the power play.

11.15.09 - Worcester 3 - Providence 5 - DCU Center

The Sharks dropped their 5th straight game as the Bruins Drew Larman scored at 18:27 of the third period, just 7 seconds after Steven Zalewski tied the game at 3-3. Zalewski scored twice and Danny Groulx found the back of the net for Worcester. The Sharks trailed 2-0, tied the score at 2-2, trailed 3-2, tied the score 3-3, before the Bruins scored twice in the final 93 seconds to seal the victory. Alex Stalock made 18 saves in net for the Sharks.

Sharks in the Atlantic

The Sharks are currently swimming in 6th place with 17 points (8-8-0-1) in the Atlantic Division trailing the first place Manchester Monarchs (24 points). The Devils are in 2nd place (23 points) and the Wolf Pack and the Falcons are tied for 3rd place with 20 points. Bridgeport sits in 5th place with 19 points. The Bruins (15 points) and the Pirates (13 points) round out the eight team division in a very choppy Atlantic Division.

400 WINS!

*400 WINS!....With the victory vs. Springfield on November 1st, head coach Roy Sommer became just the 4th coach in AHL history to reach the 400 win plateau.

*Worcester Sharks Head Coach Roy Sommer, who plays a major role in developing players for the San Jose Sharks, is currently the longest-tenured coach (12th season) in the American Hockey League. His current regular season record after the win is now: 401-385-54-57.

*In Coach Sommer's first AHL victory.... The Kentucky Thoroughblades defeated the Albany River Rats 6-4 at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky on October 17th 1998. Coincidentally, Assistant Coach David Cunniff recorded an assist as a member of the River Rats in the hockey game.

*Assistant Coach David Cunniff has joined Coach Sommer in 244 of the 401 victories.

Shark Bites:

*Captains for the 2009-10 season: Captain Ryan Vesce (2nd year), Assistant Captains Derek Joslin (2nd year) and Mike Moore (1st year).... T.J. Trevelyan, Joe Callahan, Steven Zalewski, and Frazer McLaren have also worn the "A" on their jerseys.

*From east to west..... The Sharks already have EIGHT players that heave seen action to both the AHL and NHL this season (McLaren, Zalewski, Vesce, Joslin, McGinn, Couture, Callahan, and Ferriero). The Sharks had 11 players accomplish that feat last season. Logan Couture, Ryan Vesce, and Benn Ferriero have each recorded their first NHL goals this season.

*You always remember your first..... Dennis McCauley (10/10), John McCarthy (10/9), Brandon Mashinter (10/9), Logan Couture (10/10), and Dean Strong (10/30) have all scored their first professional regular goals this season.

*OT Killers.... The Sharks are 2-0 in OT this season after going 7-1 last year in the overtime period.

*Young Guns....The average age of the Sharks roster is 23 which includes 15 rookies, five 2nd year players and two third year players. At the age of 28, Danny Groulx is the oldest while Nicholas Petrecki at 20 years old and four months is the youngest.

*Massachusetts... The Sharks have FIVE players born and raised in Massachusetts (John McCarthy - Andover, Corey Quirk - Brockton, Dennis McCauley - Billerica, Joe Callahan - Brockton, and Benn Ferriero - Essex)

*Streakers... Logan Couture has a SIX game point streak (5-7-12).

*Logan is the MAN... The Sharks have scored 28 goals in eight games with Couture in the lineup (3.5 goals per game), but have scored just 16 goals in 9 games without him (1.8 goals per game).

*Welcome back.... Torrey Mitchell dressed for Worcester on Wednesday in part of a conditioning assignment from San Jose... Mitchell played in three games this week recording an assist and eight penalty minutes.... Mitchell was the San Jose Sharks rookie of the year two seasons ago scoring ten goals in the NHL.... Mitchell made his professional debut in Worcester at the end of the 2006-07 season and had seven points (2-5-7) in 11 games.

*Need to score 1st... the Sharks scored the first goal of the game in 9 of their first 11 games (7-1-0-1 record) but have allowed the first goal in each of their last six games (1-5-0-0).

*Can't sugar coat this.... The Sharks have lost five straight games (longest streak in franchise history is seven games 2/10/08 through 2/24/08) and have been outscored 8-to-23... the power play in 0-for-22 in last four games and 1-for-34 in last six games... the Sharks have not had a lead in 365 minutes of play during their five game losing streak.

*All four years....Defenseman Derek Joslin is the only Sharks player to suit up in all four seasons in Worcester.... He is currently in San Jose.

*Can't score if you don't shoot.... The Sharks lead the AHL with 35.47 shots per game.

*Follow the leaders.... Danny Groulx is 2nd in the AHL among d-men with 12 assists and 2nd in shots with 54.... Logan Couture leads the AHL with 3 game winning goals and is 4th in rookie scoring (4-6-10) in just eight games played....Brandon Mashinter is 3rd among AHL rookies with SEVEN fighting majors

*Five for fighting...The Sharks have 18 fighting major penalties this season through 17 games... (Brandon Mashinter 7, Dennis McCauley 3, Frazer McLaren 4, Joe Loprieno 2, Nicholas Petrecki 1, and John McCarthy 1). The Sharks had 78 fighting majors last season, 68 fighting majors in 2007-08 and 54 in 2006-07.
