Hamilton Travels To Abbotsford And Manitoba This Week

Hamilton Bulldogs News Release


The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will travel to Abbotsford to battle the Heat (AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames) for match-ups on Tuesday, November 17th and Wednesday, November 18th both scheduled for 10:30 p.m. EST. The 'Dogs will then meet the Manitoba Moose (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) on Friday November 20th and Saturday November 21st both at 8:30 p.m. EST in Winnipeg.

Last week, Hamilton went 1-1-0-0 in the two games they played. They were defeated by the Rochester Americans 4-1 on Tuesday, November 10th before recording five goals in a 5-1 victory over the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday, November 14th at Copps Coliseum.

BULLDOGS NOTES:

- C David Desharnais played in his first game this season on Tuesday after suffering a foot injury during the pre-season. Desharnais recorded an assist in his first game back before scoring a goal and adding another assist in Saturday's game.

- RW Mike Glumac scored his first goal of the season on Tuesday before scoring two goals, including the game-winner, on Saturday. Glumac's first goal on Saturday was his 300th career AHL point.

- The Bulldogs have the second fewest penalty minutes in the league with 230. Along the Milwaukee Admirals have served less with 215.

- Tuesday's contest will mark the beginning of a 4-game Western-Canadian swing for the Bulldogs, as Hamilton will play four times - a pair of games against both Abbotsford and Manitoba - in five nights

- These games will be the second and third of eight contests between the Bulldogs and Heat this season

- In their last meeting, the Heat burned the 'Dogs 2-1 in a shootout as Kris Chucko scored the winner at Copps Coliseum back on Oct. 30th

- Abbotsford currently sits in 4th place in the North Division with 21 points, just one point behind the 'Dogs with four games in hand on Hamilton

- Last season, when the Heat played out of Quad City and were known as the Flames, the Bulldogs could not manage a victory, earning an 0-1-1-0 record

- The weekend's pair of games will be the third and fourth of eight meetings between the North Division rivals this season

- One month ago on October 19th and 20th, the Bulldogs hosted the Moose and came away with three of a possible four points, losing in overtime in the first contest, and getting a 4-1 victory in the ladder of the two games

- Manitoba currently sits in 3rd place in the North Division standings, with an 10-9-2-0 record, good for 22 points

- Last season, the Bulldogs came away with a 4-3-1-0 record against the eventual 2009 Calder Cup Finalists

- The Bulldogs own a very respectable 42-21-1-5-1 all-time record against the Moose

- Rookie RW Sergei Shirokov (7-6-13) is currently atop the Moose scoring race with 13 points in 18 games played this season=A1=A6 last season as a 22-year old, Shirokov notched 17 goals and 41 points to lead the KHL's CSKA Moscow in scoring

- There are just three Ontario natives currently on the Manitoba roster: RW Darryl Bootland (Schoemberg), C Marco Rosa (Scarborough), and Hamilton-born G Daren Machesney

ALUMNI WATCH:

There are over 40 former Bulldogs on 2009-2010 National Hockey League rosters. Over 60 percent of all former 'Dogs have played in at least one NHL game. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments of ex-'Dogs from this past week:

- Chicago G Cristobal Huet backstopped the Blackhawks to four consecutive wins last week, finishing with 91 total saves and allowing only eight goals overall in victories over Los Angeles (Nov. 9), Colorado (Nov. 11), Toronto (Nov. 13), and the 1st-place San Jose Sharks (Nov. 15)

- Edmonton RW Zack Stortini picked up his second assist and fourth point of the season in a 3-2 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers (Nov. 15)

- Montreal C Tomas Plekanec set up three goals and added two shots on net as the Canadiens got by Phoenix 4-2 (Nov. 12)

- New York Rangers LW Chris Higgins had an assist and totaled three shots on net as the Thrashers defeated the Broadway Blue Shirts 5-3 (Nov. 12)

- Boston LW Steve Begin collected an assist, fired two shots on goal, and was +2 as the Bruins blanked Pittsburgh 3-0 (Nov. 10)

- Toronto D Francois Beauchemin was the only bright-spot for the Leafs, scoring a goal and adding an assist, as the Buds continued their losing ways in a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of the Calgary Flames (Nov. 14)

- Boston RW Michael Ryder tickled the twine with one of his four shots on net as the Bruins could not hold on to a late-game lead and were beaten 6-5 in overtime by Sidney Crosby the Pittsburgh Penguins (Nov. 14)

- Montreal G Carey Price had a strong week, picking up a 4-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes (Nov. 12), and making an astounding 53 saves in a losing effort against Nashville (Nov. 14)

- Los Angeles C Jarrett Stoll scored a goal, had three shots on net, and finished +1 as the Kings stormed past the Hurricanes 5-2 (Nov. 11)

- Dallas C Mike Ribeiro dished out an assist and added a shot on goal as the Coyotes beat the Stars 3-2 (Nov. 14)

- Edmonton C Shawn Horcoff scored a goal and finished with four shots on target in a 3-2 loss to the Thrashers (Nov. 15)

- Detroit RW Dan Cleary totaled five points over a two-game span last week, notching a goal and an assist in a 9-1 win over Columbus (Nov. 11), and adding a goal and two helpers in the Red Wings' 7-4 victory over Anaheim=A1=A6 the former Stanley Cup Champion was also +5 with five shots on goal over the course of the same two games

- Columbus G Mathieu Garon made 32 saves on 34 shots to help earn the Blue Jackets a 3-2 shootout win over Anaheim (Nov. 13)

- Minnesota RW Antti Miettinen picked up an assist and three shots on goal while finishing +2 in a 5-2 win over Toronto (Nov. 10)=A1=A6 the Hameenlinna, Finland native then scored a goal, had two shots on net, and finished +1 as the Wild fell to Carolina 5-4 in a shootout (Nov. 15)

- Atlanta C Marty Reasoner had two helpers and a +2 rating as the Thrashers dethroned the Kings 7-0 (Nov. 13)

- St. Louis LW Brad Winchester picked up an assist and two shots on net as San Jose defeated the Blues 3-1 (Nov. 14)

- Montreal D Marc-Andre Bergeron continues to collect points after his stint with the Bulldogs, as the Trois-Rivieres, PQ native scored a goal and two assists with two shots on net and a +2 rating in a 4-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes (Nov. 12)

- Boston G Tim Thomas got the shutout with a 27-save performance as the Bruins defeated the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 (Nov. 10)
