
Moose Sweep Marlies In Week 7

The Manitoba Moose picked up four points in Week 7 after winning back-to-back games over the Toronto Marlies at MTS Centre. The club shattered all signs of a scoring drought on Friday night when they notched five markers to beat the visiting Toronto Marlies, 5-1. Marty Murray (1g & 1a), Marco Rosa (1g & 2a), Eric Walsky (0g & 2a), and Evan Oberg (0g & 2a) all recorded multi-point nights while Darryl Bootland, Sergei Shirokov and Neil Petruic all scored singles for the club. In the Saturday night rematch, the clubs were forced into a shootout to decide the winner. Eric Walsky notched the winner in the shooting dual to confirm a sweep for his club with a 2-1 shootout victory.
Friday, November 13, 2009: Manitoba 5, Toronto 1 The Manitoba Moose shattered all signs of a scoring drought on Friday night when they notched five markers to beat the visiting Toronto Marlies 5-1 in front of 7,592 fans at MTS Centre. Marty Murray (1g & 1a), Marco Rosa (1g & 2a), Eric Walsky (0g & 2a), and Evan Oberg (0g & 2a) all recorded multi-point nights while Darryl Bootland, Sergei Shirokov and Neil Petruic all scored singles for the club. In his first game back from the parent Canucks, Cory Schneider was nearly flawless allowing only one goal on 19 shots.
Saturday, November 14, 2009: Manitoba 2, Toronto 1 (SO) The Manitoba Moose swept the Toronto Marlies in a 2-1 shootout decision on Saturday night in front of 9,171 fans at MTS Centre. Eric Walsky notched the game-winner in the shootout for first-star honours while goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 20 of 21 shots for his eighth win this campaign.
Moose Notes
BANG, BANG, BANG: For the first time this season, the Moose scored five goals in regulation on Friday night to break their five-game losing streak. This is the first time since March 25, 2009 that the Moose have notched five markers in 60 minutes of action (5-3W vs. Syracuse). In fact, this is the first time since Oct. 24/09 that the club has scored more than one goal. The Moose were credited with a 5-4 victory against Abbotsford on October 14, 2009, but the fifth goal came in a shootout. The most goals the club has ever scored in a single game is 10 and it occured on December 27, 2000 with a 10-3 victory over Detroit.
MULTI-POINT MEN: In Friday night's victory over Toronto, four Moose players earned multi-point nights. Marty Murray (1g & 1a), Marco Rosa (1g & 2a), Eric Walsky (0g & 2a), and Evan Oberg (0g & 2a) all recorded multi-point nights while Darryl Bootland, Sergei Shirokov and Neil Petruic all scored singles for the club. This is the first time a player from Manitoba has recorded a multi-point night since October 14 vs. Abbotsford when Sergei Shirokov earned a goal and two helpers in a 5-4 shootout victory. This is Walsky and Rosa's second game with more than one point, but the last time it occured was October 16 and October 9 respectively. Marco Rosa earned his 100th point in the AHL with his second assist on Friday.
Upcoming Opponents
After splitting their opening series with the Bulldogs at the Copps Coliseum earlier this season, the Moose host the Hamilton club this weekend in their first double-header at MTS Centre. Historically, Manitoba holds a 25-36-2-5 record against Hamilton, 16-13-0-3 on home ice.
Player of the Week Nominee
Eric Walsky
For the first time this season, Moose right-winger Eric Walsky is the nominee for AHL Player of the Week... This week, the Anchorage, AK. native recorded two assists in Friday's 5-1 victory over the visiting Toronto Marlies... That was his second multi-point night this season and he finished the game with a team-high +4 rating... In the rematch on Saturday night, Walsky earned a helper on the only Moose goal in regulation time... He then notched the game-winner in the shootout to confirm a 2-1 victory and weekend sweep for the Moose... He finished the night +1... In two games this week, Walsky recorded six shots and finished +5.
