Heat at Checkers Game Preview

April 6, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

Charlotte, NC - The Abbotsford Heat open their final road set of the season tomorrow morning in North Carolina as they look to extend their point streak to a sixth straight game against the Charlotte Checkers (Carolina Hurricanes). The Heat enter action sitting in fourth spot in the Western Conference while the Checkers are just five points back and hold three games in hand, with just nine days remaining in the regular season.

The Heat and Checkers split their two-game series in the Fraser Valley in January earlier this season with Charlotte handily defeating the Heat 5-0 in the opener, before the home team bounced back as Joni Ortio won his only game of the season in a 5-2 win. The Heat and Checkers had never played before, prior to this year, and are both spending their first season under new divisional alignment that has Abbotsford in the West with the four Southern teams, and Charlotte playing in the Midwest, despite being located just 247 kilometer (154 miles) from the Atlantic Ocean.

Last action for the Heat came on Wednesday night at the AESC, where the hosts erased a 2-1 deficit after 40 minutes to earn their 38th win of the season in overtime, when Ben Walter banged in a Krys Kolanos pass 2:19 into four-on-four overtime to end the game. The win leaves the Heat one back of the franchise record of 39 wins, set back in the 2009-10 inaugural season.

The broadcast of the Heat's final two road games of the regular season are available on Country 107.1 with the pre-game show beginning fifteen minutes prior to puck drop. Tomorrow's game begins at noon local time and 9:00 AM PDT. Sunday afternoon's game starts at 3:00PM locally, Noon PDT. Broadcasts are also available on Country 107.1's website, theAHL.com, and on the Rogers Radio App for your wireless device.
