
Pirates Nearing 4 Millionth Fan in Franchise History

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates franchise is nearing an important milestone in its history. The Pirates stand just 17 fans from breaking the 4 million mark in attendance. The mark will be broken this Saturday when the Pirates host the Worcester Sharks at the Cumberland County Civic Center this Saturday night, April 7, at 7:00 p.m.
The team, in its 19th season in Portland, has consistently increased its average attendance in each of the past three seasons, and will do so again this season. During the current season, the Pirates are averaging 5,171 fans per game through 35 of 38 home dates.
The Pirates have been the major tenant of the Cumberland County Civic Center for the past 19 seasons. Since the building opened in 1977, it has welcomed more than 17,250,000 patrons for sporting events, concerts, and other shows.
The team arrived in Portland in 1993 after relocating from Baltimore, Maryland. The Pirates have won the Calder Cup once in 1994. The team has also won two conference championships (1994, 1996) and three division championships (2006, 2008, 2011).
In the coming weeks, the Portland Pirates will unveil a list of events and celebrations for our 20th Anniversary season in Portland. The team has already released a special 20th Anniversary logo and will announce specific plans for events to help fans join the celebration!
The Pirates 4 millionth fan will receive a Pirates prize pack which includes a commemorative Pirates jersey marking the occasion. Get their early when the gates open at 6:00 p.m., and you could be the Pirates 4 millionth fan!
Saturday's clash with Worcester kicks off the final three-game homestand of the 2011-12 season. In addition to 4 millionth fan celebrations, it's also Northeast Delta Dental Night, where the first 1,500 fans in the doors will receive a FREE totebag, courtesy of Northeast Delta Dental. The Pirates, in cooperation with the American Heart Association, give fans their second chance to pick up a Mystery Puck! The wrapped pucks are signed by one Portland Pirates player each. Proceeds from the sale of the pucks will benefit the American Heart Association! It's also A Night of Champions, presented by Mercy Hospital, to honor champion student athletes from the winter sports season around the state!
