Syracuse Crunch News Release
Syracuse, NY (April 6, 2012) - Patrick Maroon scored the Crunch's lone goal in a 3-1 setback to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers tonight at the Webster Bank Arena.
The Crunch are still in the post season picture, sitting in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with four regular season games remaining.
The Sound Tigers struck twice on the power play to jump out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Their first man-advantage goal came at the 13:29 mark when Tony Romano redirected a feed from Rhett Rakhshani past Crunch netminder Iiro Tarkki. David Ullstrom scored the Sound Tigers second power-play goal with just 35 seconds remaining in the first period. Tarkki stopped an initial shot from Calvin de Haan but Ullstrom was able to stuff the rebound past Tarkki.
With former Crunch forward Trevor Frischmon serving a two minute roughing penalty, Patrick Maroon cut the Sound Tigers lead in half with his 32nd goal of the season. Maroon slid the puck past Bridgeport goaltender Kevin Poulin for the power-play tally at the 8:22 mark of the second period.
Ullstrom added to Bridgeport's lead with his second goal of the game at the 18:22 mark of the period. Ullstrom fired a wrist shot from the slot that evaded Tarkki and gave the Sound Tigers a 3-1 heading into the second intermission.
Both teams were scoreless in the final frame; the Crunch finished the game with 34 shots on goal to the Sound Tigers 22.
