Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winter Hawks scored twice in the final minutes to force overtime against the Everett Silvertips, but Dan Gendur scored with just six seconds remaining to lead the Silvertips to a 4-3 win on Saturday night at the Comcast Arena in Everett.

The Hawks were down 1-0 after one period on a power-play goal by Jordan Mistlebacher eight minutes into the opening period.

After a scoreless second period, the Hawks tied the score on a wrist shot from Chris Francis in the slot just under seven minutes into the third period. Everett got two goals, one by Gendur and the other by Zach Hamill to take a 3-1 lead with eight minutes remaining in the game.

Portland pulled goaltender Jordan White in the final two minutes and the Hawks capitalized twice, first by Tristan King and the second by Keith Voytechek, to force the extra session.

With only 6.5 seconds remaining, Gendur's shot from the blue line snuck through the body of White and in to give their second overtime win in a row over Portland in the last two meetings.

The line of Francis (1 g, 1 a), Voytechek (1 g, 1 a) and Tyler Swystun (2 a) combined for six points for Portland. Gendur (2 g, 1 a), Kyle Beach (2 a) and Jonathan Harty (2 a) led the way for Everett.

White stopped 34 of 38 shots in net for Portland while Shayne Barrie stopped 28 of 31 for Everett.

On special teams, Everett went 1 for 3 on the power play while Portland was 0 for 6.

Next up, the Hawks take on the Kelowna Rockets at 5:00 on Sunday evening in the Memorial Coliseum.
