Tips Shut Out T-Birds

Everett, Febraury 29, 2008 The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-0 Friday night at the Everett Events Center.

The T-Birds record is now 35-21-5-2, good for fourth place in the Western Conference playoff standings. They are one point ahead of the Kelowna Rockets, who are at KeyArena on Saturday night, and two points ahead of the Silvertips. Seattle has a game in hand on both teams.

The T-Birds lead the 10-game season series against the Silvertips 6-2-0-0. Clayton Bauer scored at 15:56 of the first period to give the Silvertips a 1-0 lead. Zach Hamill and Dan Gendur had the assists.

Everett (36-25-0-3) outshot Seattle 23-15 in the first period.

Kyle Beach scored at 1:15 of the second period to put Everett in front 2-0. Dane Crowley and Shane Harper had the assists.

The T-Birds outshot the Silvertips 13-8 in the second period. Everett led in total shots, 31-28, after two periods.

Seattle pulled goalie Jacob DeSerres with just under two minutes left in the game for an extra attacker. The T-Birds were not able to capitalize on the extra attacker.

Both teams finished with 37 shots on goal.

DeSerres made 35 saves on 37 shots and his record is now 17-10-0-1.

Everett goalie Leland Irving made 37 saves to get the shutout and improve his record to 26-21-0-3.

The T-Birds play the Rockets on Saturday at KeyArena at 6:05 p.m. The Hockey Challenge is on Saturday with six games scheduled. A ticket to the Hockey Challenge gives fans access to all Challenge events on Saturday. Events include the Celebrity Game and autograph session, all other Challenge games and the T-Birds game that night against the Rockets. The Celebrity autograph session will commence at 5 p.m. and last until 5:30 p.m. The Celebrity Game is scheduled to start after the T-Birds game ends. The first game of Challenge weekend is 10:20 a.m. at KeyArena.

Season tickets are currently on sale for 2007-08 at KeyArena. Fans purchasing 2007-08 season tickets will have the highest seating priority for the 2008-09 season as the Thunderbirds open the new Kent Events Center.
