Giants' Machacek Named HUSKY WHL Player of the Month

CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League today announced that forward Spencer Machacek of the Vancouver Giants, has been named the Husky WHL Player of the Month for February.

The 19 year old forward from Lethbridge, Alberta recorded 27 points in 14 games through the month of February, netting eight goals and 19 assists all while maintain a plus minus rating of +13. Machacek picked up four goals and six assists through the first six games of the February and ended the month on an eight game point scoring streak accumulating 17 points in eight games, including four goals; three power play markers and one game winner.

Machacek's consistency helped lead the Giants to an 11-1-1-1 record in the month of February and an overall record of 44-13-2-6 on the season. The Giants have clinched the WHL B.C. Division titled and are tied with the Tri-City Americans for top spot in the WHL Western Conference.

For his efforts Machacek was named a game Star in seven contests during February, including five 1st Star and two 2nd Star selections.

In 64 games played thus far this season Machacek has posted career highs of 33 goals and 43 assists, good enough for seventh spot among WHL Top Scorers with 76 points.

Machacek is in his third year of play in the Western Hockey League and with the Vancouver Giants. The 6'1 forward was selected in the 3rd round - 67th overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

His accomplishments make Spencer Machacek a deserving choice as the HUSKY WHL Player of the Month for February.
