Vancouver Giants News Release

The Vancouver Giants congratulate team captain SPENCER MACHACEK on being named the Husky WHL Player of the Month for February.

In 14 games for the Giants last month, the 19 year-old right winger collected eight goals and 19 assists. In addition to scoring four power play goals and two game winning goals, Machacek was also a +13 for the month.

His biggest performance came February 6 on the road as his two goals and three assists helped lead the Giants to a 7-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks. He also had back-to-back four-point performances in Vancouver victories over the Chilliwack Bruins and Edmonton Oil Kings.

Machacek is currently riding an eight-game point scoring streak, which sees him with four goals and 13 assists. He leads all Giants in scoring this season (33g,43a), putting him 7th overall in league scoring.

Machacek is into his third season with the Giants. He was the Atlanta Thrashers top pick in the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft, going 67th overall.
